MSC Preziosa is Rotterdam’s winter regular. While most ships leave the North Sea after September, the 333-metre MSC vessel, one of the longest ships to dock at the Wilhelminapier, keeps calling weekly from late October through the end of December 2026 on her Northern Europe itineraries.
Winter calls have their own rhythm: shorter daylight, quieter museums, and from late November the Christmas lights and markets that most cruise passengers never get to see.

Ten hours in port, with darkness falling around 17:00 in December, rewards an indoor-focused plan. Rotterdam’s Markthal is at its best in winter, the Maritime Museum and Depot Boijmans are a short walk apart, and the covered Koopgoot shopping route keeps you dry between them.

Most calls are at Cruise Terminal Rotterdam, Wilhelminakade 699, in the city centre. Single calls use the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam in November 2026 and December 2027.
What is there to do in Rotterdam in winter
More than you would expect: the Markthal food hall, Depot Boijmans art storage, the Maritime Museum and the covered shopping streets are all within walking distance of the terminal, plus Christmas markets from late November.
Are attractions open during the Christmas calls
On 23 and 29 December almost everything is open; most museums close only on Christmas Day itself. Check individual opening hours, as some close early on New Year’s Eve.
