Keukenhof is 65 kilometres from the Rotterdam Cruise Terminal, which for years made it the shore day people talked themselves out of. It no longer is. A coach leaves the terminal itself at 08:30, your garden ticket is already in the price, and you are back at the ship by 15:30 — with an earlier return laid on for Holland America Line sailings. This page sets out the times, and which 2027 cruise calls can actually make it.
The Tour at a Glance
- Departs: Rotterdam Cruise Terminal, Wilhelminakade 699 — the coach comes to the ship, no transfer into the city first
- Standard timing: leave 08:30, leave Keukenhof 14:00, back at the terminal by 15:30
- Holland America Line timing: leave Keukenhof 13:00 and run straight back to the terminal, alongside at 14:00 — a full hour before a 15:00 sailing
- Later option: a second coach at 11:30, and a 17:30 return getting in at 19:00 — useful for ships that dock late or stay overnight
- Included: return coach travel and Keukenhof admission
- Duration: about 6 hours — roughly 90 minutes each way and 3 hours in the gardens
- Operator: HopOn HopOff Holland, an official Keukenhof partner for 2027
- Cancellation: free up to 24 hours before departure
- Capacity: one coach a day — when it is full, it is full

One coach a day — book before you sail
This is not a fleet. There is one coach, and when its seats are gone they are gone — there is no second departure to move you onto, and on a cruise day there is no realistic way to get to Keukenhof and back without it. April dates fill first, and the days when two ships are in port fill fastest of all.
Booking early costs you nothing: cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure, so a seat held months ahead can still be given back if your plans change. Booking late costs you the whole excursion.
Why This One Works From a Ship
Most Keukenhof trips are built for people staying in Amsterdam. They start at a city station, assume you can leave when you like, and put the risk of a late return on you. On a cruise day that risk is the whole problem: the gangway closes whether or not your coach is back.
This tour is built the other way round. It starts at the cruise terminal, it runs to a fixed return time, and the operator sets that return time against ship departures rather than against the garden’s closing hour. That is why there is a 13:00 departure from Keukenhof as well as the standard 14:00 — it exists specifically so Holland America passengers are back before a 15:00 sailing.
It is also worth knowing what this is not. There is no guide walking you round the gardens; the driver takes you there and brings you back, and you explore Keukenhof at your own pace. For most people that is the right trade — the gardens are well signposted and three hours is enough to see them properly — but if you want commentary throughout, this is not that tour.
Which 2027 Cruise Calls Can Do This Tour
Twenty ships call at Rotterdam inside the 2027 Keukenhof season. All twenty can make the tour — but not all of them on the standard 08:30 coach, and two of them not on the day they arrive. Departure and return times can be combined, so the answer is rarely just yes or no: it is which coach, and how long that leaves you in the gardens. This table works it out call by call, using the port’s published times.

Ship times from the Cruise Port Rotterdam schedule, checked 9 September 2026. The “worth knowing” column is our own reading of the timings, not the operator’s guarantee — a call listed as tight is one where twenty minutes of traffic matters. Holland America Line: the Direct 14:00 Return
Seven of the twenty calls in the Keukenhof window are Holland America ships, and every one of them sails at 15:00. On the standard coach you would be back at 15:30 — half an hour after your ship left.
So there is a dedicated return. The coach leaves Keukenhof at 13:00 and drives straight back to the cruise terminal without the city stop, which puts you alongside your ship at 14:00 — a full hour before sailing. You still get three hours in the gardens, and the hour of margin is what makes this a shore day rather than a gamble.
This applies to Rotterdam on 11, 18 and 25 April and 2 and 9 May 2027, and to Nieuw Statendam on 17 April and 1 May. Say which ship you are on when you book so you are put on the right coach.
What It Costs
From €59.50 per person, coach and Keukenhof admission together (tiqets.com, checked September 2026). That is one price covering the return journey and the garden ticket — there is nothing to buy at the gate. Keukenhof publishes its own 2027 admission prices in mid-October 2026, so the tour price may be adjusted then; the price at checkout is always the one that counts.
The comparison worth making is not against the garden ticket alone but against getting there. From Rotterdam that means a train to Leiden and then a connecting bus, or a taxi at motorway distances, with the admission on top of either. For two people travelling together the coach usually works out cheaper as well as simpler, and it is the only option that guarantees you are back at the ship in time.
What to Expect at Keukenhof
Thirty-two hectares, seven million bulbs planted by hand each autumn, and a season that lasts eight weeks. The garden is laid out as a park rather than a flower show: winding paths, mature trees, water, and a working windmill you can climb for a view over the commercial bulb fields beyond the fence.
Three hours is enough to walk the whole garden without rushing, see the indoor pavilions — which hold the orchids, roses and the changing flower shows, and which matter more than people expect on a cold or wet April day — and still sit down for coffee. If you want the 45-minute electric boat trip through the surrounding bulb fields, book it when you arrive rather than at the end; it sells out on busy afternoons.
Peak bloom is usually the second half of April, though it moves with the weather: a cold spring holds the tulips back, a warm one brings them forward and shortens the display. Keukenhof publishes a weekly flower forecast during the season, which is the only honest way to know what is out on your date. For the wider picture — the bulb fields themselves, the flower parade, and where the growers actually are — Tulip Festival Amsterdam follows the season in detail.
Practical Notes
- Book before you sail. The coach has a fixed number of seats and the April dates go first. Free cancellation up to 24 hours means booking early costs you nothing.
- Be at the coach ten minutes early. It leaves from the terminal, but it leaves on time — it has a timed garden entry to meet at the other end.
- Dress for a Dutch spring. April in the Bollenstreek is 8–14°C, open country, and wind off the North Sea. A waterproof layer is worth more than an extra jumper.
- Bring a card, not cash. Keukenhof is cashless throughout, as is most of the Netherlands.
- Mornings are quieter. The 08:30 coach reaches the gardens before the Amsterdam coaches arrive, which buys you an hour of comparative calm.
- Check your all-aboard time, not your departure time. They are usually thirty to sixty minutes apart, and it is the earlier one that matters.
- Not sure the tulips are your day? Our Rotterdam cruise port guide covers what else fits into a shore day here.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the coach really leave from the cruise terminal?
Yes — Wilhelminakade 699, where your ship is berthed. You do not need to get into the city first. There is a second pick-up at Rotterdam Centraal for anyone not arriving by ship.
Is the Keukenhof ticket included?
Yes. Admission is in the price as a timed-entry ticket booked by the operator, so you do not need to buy anything separately or worry about the garden selling out on your date.
What happens if my ship arrives late?
The coach runs to a fixed schedule and cannot wait indefinitely. Rotterdam arrivals are rarely delayed by much, but if your ship is running late, contact the operator — free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before, and after that it comes down to how late you are.
Can I do this on a Holland America cruise?
Yes. There is a direct 13:00 return from Keukenhof that skips the city stop and has you back at the terminal at 14:00, an hour before a 15:00 sailing. Mention your ship when booking, and see the table above for the exact dates.
Is it suitable for wheelchair users?
The operator lists this tour as not suitable for wheelchair users. Keukenhof itself is largely accessible, so if mobility is a concern the gardens are not the obstacle — the coach is. A private accessible transfer is the better route.
What if I am in Rotterdam outside the Keukenhof season?
The gardens are shut and this tour does not run. The bulb fields themselves flower from late March into early May regardless, and Rotterdam has plenty to fill a shore day — see our things to do in Rotterdam guide, or our tulip season guide for the wider picture.
